The AARI team recognise that having Diabetes, or caring for someone who does can be difficult. The information out there can be truly overwhelming! Our Diabetes Management Program is an 8-week cyclical program (you can enter any time) for anyone diagnosed with diabetes. This program combines up-to-date and real-world nutrition and weight control information with practical fitness sessions to give empower you on your Diabetes Management journey!

If you have diabetes, have a family member with diabetes, or are at risk of diabetes because of your weight or family history, this program if for you! Medicare rebates are available, so please call our reception staff for more information.

Week One – Diabetes 101

In this session we will take you through the basics of diabetes, your health (including testing, your feet and what you need to keep an eye on), to ensure you have all the tools and a head start to get control of diabetes rather than it controlling you!

Week Two – Diabetes Medications

Our Pharmastist will run this session to explain what your meds are doing, how to take them; and when to ask more questions.

Week Three – Nutrition For EveryBody

Are you Food Confused? Our Accredited Dietitian will explore beyond current recommendations to show you how to provide the best for your body. This session will provide key nutrition information for everybody, such as getting the best nutrient mix, energy balance for weight control and busting a few myth’s and dieting misconceptions.

Week Four – Moving With Diabetes

Did you know that some exercises are better than others for the management of good blood glucose levels and reducing the risk of hypo’s? Our Accredited Exercise Physiologist will take you through the do’s and don’ts of diab-exercise, when to test and what to expect. This will also include information on hypo risks and management, and of course weight control.

Week Five – Carbohydrates

Our Accredited Dietitian and Nutritionist will get more specific to diabetes by teaching you about carbohydrates – what, when and how much – and will include information on proteins and fats.

Week Six- Feet and Diabetes

Our Accredited Podiatrist will intorduce you to your feet, and teach you what to look out for in keeping them healthy.

Week Seven – Diabetes Risks and Complications

Knowledge is power! Learn how to reduce your risk of complications from Diabetes.

Week Eight – Supermarket Tour

Our Accredited Dietitian will take the group to the local supermarket to learn how to read labels and navigate the supermarket aisles for a healthy basket on a budget!
